Common Loon family on Lake Dunmore - Photo by Mike Korkuc

Common Loons were absent from Addison County as a breeding species
from some point in the mid-20th century until 2007, when a pair nested
successfully on Lake Dunmore. They nested again on Dunmore in 2008.
Last year they nested on Mud Pond, a small secluded pond just west of
Dunmore, but they foraged regularly on Dunmore. This year they are
back nesting on Dunmore and, as the photo from June 27th indicates,
their two offspring are doing well so far.
