Fledgeling American Kestrel - Photo by Greg Smela

This fledgling American Kestrel was found by Greg Smela on the evening of July 16 on his property in Cornwall. It had apparently it landed in this spot after an abortive first or early flight. He says this is the first year they have noticed Kestrels in the area and that there are trees nearby with holes in them that could have been the site of a nest. The bird was left alone, as fallen fledglings should be with the exception of extreme cases where their lives are in danger, and eventually moved along on it’s own.
