On 20 April 2012 the Otter Creek Audubon Board of Directors signed on to a letter to U.S. Fish and Wildlife Secretary Kenneth Salazar supporting new Fish and Wildlife Service wind energy guidelines. The guidelines incorporated the consensus view of the conservation community by providing collaborative science-based solutions to bird and wildlife conflicts with wind development across the country. A large number of Audubon chapters and other conservation organizations signed the congratulatory letter.
