A Red-tailed Hawk atop a feeder in Shoreham

It is sometimes said by those putting out bird feeders that the seeds are to feed the songbird and the songbirds are to feed the hawks. I don’t think that necessarily applies to this Red-tailed Hawk recently seen perched upon a squirrel-proof bird feeder in Shoreham, VT.  Birds make up a very small portion of a Red-tailed Hawk’s diet, so it is much more likely this bird was just using the feeder as a convenient perch to search for rodents from.
