Sharp-shinned Hawk

Us birders aren’t the only ones enjoying the Redpoll invasion this winter. This Sharp-shinned Hawk was doing its best to catch one and other birds from below a feeder in Ripton with no success. Good identification marks seen here which you can use to separate Sharpies from their very similar cousins, the  Cooper’s Hawk, are its dark nape, rounded head and in the picture below, its pencil-legged appearance.
