Join the County Bird Quest! – The Vermont Center for Ecostudies is challenging birders throughout the state to a friendly competition. The goal is to see which county’s birders can tally the highest number of bird species in 2011. Otter Creek Audubon has risen to this challenge and has become the sponsor for the County Bird Quest for Addison County. Our captains in this endeavor are Steve Trombulak from Middlebury College and Ron Payne, an OCAS board member. Addison County has a great wealth of birds to draw upon, but for us to come out on top we need your help! The official count will be kept on Vermont eBird and your participation is as simple as submitting your bird sightings there. We are also planning to have some Quest-themed outings throughout the year that you can take part in as well. And there is more than just pride on the line. There are prizes on the county and individual level, as well as a youth division for birders 17 and under. For more information on rules and awards, see the VCE County Bird Quest website. You can also keep tabs on the County standings right here on the lower left of our website. If you have questions about eBird, feel free to contact Ron Payne and he will be happy to help you with using this great resource.
